Thermometer or Thermostat? By Beryl Comar "Are you a thermometer, merely reacting to your environment or are you a thermostat, controlling your environment? Decide to be a thermostat in 2004 - and stay that way." All around you there are constant reminders of how bad life is, of how little reason there is to be happy. It is easy in these circumstances to give up, to go with the flow, to think "What's the use?" You try to be positive and people tell you to "Get real.” With your NLP, you have the ability to control your attitude so that you banish fear and worry. Look at the things that are around you, are they positive and uplifting? Listen to your talk, is it inspiring and encouraging? Surround yourself with positive messages. Put photographs of your favorite people where you can see them all the time. Every time you get a compliment write it out and stick it on the wall. Develop a "brag" book of all your achievements; put in it everything that ever made you feel great. Make a tape or CD of your favorite music then play it whenever you travel. Become an optimist, believe that the world is out to help you. An optimist is aware of problems but realizes that there are solutions. An optimist knows that problems are opportunities for growth. An optimist experiences difficulties but believes that they can be overcome. An optimist sees the negative but looks for the positive. An optimist may have reason to complain but chooses to smile. The happiest people do not necessarily have the best of everything, but they do make the most of everything they have. So just for today: Take a look around you and see just how much you really have to be grateful for. Talk health, happiness and prosperity to everyone you meet. Treat everyone you meet as if they are special. Look for the best in everything. Be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others. Leave everyone that you meet uplifted, inspired and happier for the meeting. You have the ability to control your attitude by controlling your thoughts so choose to think positive joyful thoughts and you will be positive and joyful. Thermometers can merely react to the environment but a thermostat is used to control the environment. Choose to take control. Question your actions, question your talk. Are you creating the environment that you want or are you merely reacting to the environment set by others? In any situation you find yourself merely ask yourself this question "Are you a thermometer, merely reacting to your environment or are you a thermostat, controlling your environment?" Live with passion. Have as much fun as you can. Participate wherever/whenever you can. Learn as much as you can about as much as you can. Choose to change and grow to be the best you, that you can be. S_CCESS or FAIL_RE U decide!
